Events and Rides
Many members of NillumBUG get together once
week for a cycle ride. Currently these mostly occur on Wednesdays. The
format of these rides is informal. As such, there is no designated
leader and no one rider responsible for first aid. NillumBUG does not
have public liability insurance. The routes taken are suggested by
members and the rides are conducted in much the same sort of fashion
that a group of friends might arrange a ride. Dates and descriptions of
these rides are detailed on a rides calendar which is sent to all
members. All riders are expected to carry their own provisions such as
pump, bicylcle tube repair kit, water, and their own simple first aid
kit as desired. For those who wish for a more formal approach to
cycling other cycling groups may be more suitable.
Some
rides are undertaken on the rural, mostly surface roads, in the outer
north eastern areas of Melbourne. A popular route is one from
Hurstbridge to Strathewen. This ride is 34km and journeys through
scenic countryside on mostly quiet country roads.
Other
rides mostly incorporate cycle trails and often link in with coffee
stops or other local attractions. Sometimes we take bikes on the train
if travelling further afield.
Many of our members join in with another informal cycling group, which leaves from Diavolo Cycles every Saturday morning at 7am.
Visitors (non-members) are welcome to join rides, however please read our acknowledgement of risks and obligations by non-members document .
